My newest find for the kitchen

So today I went to Wal-Mart to pick up some storage bins and chew bones for the dogs and came across this fun item.

Yes, it is the Farm Fresh Pig.  He is so cute I couldn't resist.  He was only $9.92 and he is 11 1/2 inches tall.  He fits nicely in this corner of my kitchen.

I will be moving him around the kitchen from time to time.  He will probably end up on the kitchen table.

Spring Wreath

With the weather being unusually warm this winter in Colorado today gave me Spring Fever.  I pulled out my greenery wreath and added some Spring color to it.  Later on I will be adding some Easter decorations to it.

I like to wait until March to get the porch decorated.  Right now I need to get a few more things organized inside before I get started with my Spring decorating.  I just felt the need to do a little something today.

Blah to Ooh La La Laundry Room

It has only taken me over a year but I finally got my laundry room updated.  First to go was the gray walls.  I am not fond of gray unless I am using it as decor pieces.

Here are some of the before pictures.  Please excuse the mess around the sink.

We needed to lower the cabinets by the washer and dryer as it was hard for me to reach.  As you can see they had been moved up and you can see the old color prior to the gray.

The walls went to a nice light brown color and the trim went off white.  A new sink and faucet were installed as well as a new counter top.  The cabinets were refinished and hardware was added.  This room is very small so it wasn't easy getting photos.

New light.  Looks much better than the old fluorescent one.

Close up of the new hardware for the cabinets.  The cabinets didn't have any before.

I still need to find something to put above the sink area.  I am thinking that a nice shelf would do.

The beadboard back splash is actually wallpaper that is textured.  Here is how it looked before painting.

I thought is would be easier than trying to cut real beadboard.  The trim is wood and I painted, aged and polyurethane it.

I am very please with how this room turned out.  Now I enjoy doing laundry.

My new floor lamp

The other day when I was at Wal-Mart  and found this floor lamp.  I thought it would look good in the formal living room.

Who ever would think that this lamp came from this little box.  It didn't say that you needed a shade but how in the world is there a shade in this box.  So here is what the shade looked like out of the box.  I have never had to put a shade together before.

Bailey has decided to help me out with it.

Now both dogs wanted to get on the action of helping me put this lamp together.

It only took me about 5-10 minutes to get this together.  I probably could have gone faster without the help.

It fits nicely by the chair.  This room has no over head lighting as it is vaulted.  I have to rely on lamps.  This will help out if I want to do some reading.

Now all that fabric on the chair is for my next project in the formal living room.  I am going to recover the cornice boards with it.

Here is more of a close up of the fabric.

I think it will go better with my rugs that I have in the room.  I also want to refinish the drop table in the corner.  It was my great aunt's.  I am not sure how old it is but it probably close to 70 years or more.  I am not sure how I want to finish it yet.  Most of the furniture in this room is dark brown or a mix of off white and dark brown.

Right now I am working on refinishing the cabinets in the laundry room.  We already put in a new sink, faucet and counter top.  I am hoping to have it done by next weekend.
